The sound of wedding bells rings faintly in your ears. Your wedding date has been set and it’s time to start crossing items off you ever-growing to-do list. If you’re like me, chances are you have dreamed up your perfect wedding day and already have an idea about who you’d like to join you on your special day. One of the first and most essential details to decide on is wedding invitations. You want guests to know what to expect at your ceremony and reception, so it is important to customize your invitations to best reflect the vibe you are aiming for and your unique personality as well. But it can be overwhelming to know where to start. There are so many customization options to choose from, I got lost in a sea of choices when I was shopping for my invitations. So hopefully my trouble will help guide you in your quest to create the perfect invite.
One way to show your personal fashion and flair is through the style and design of your invitations. I loved browsing the hundreds of style options. There are designs that are traditional, contemporary, modern, retro, religious, and the list goes on and on. My fiancé and I love to do anything outdoors and we were planning an outdoor wedding, so we knew we wanted a nature-inspired design for our invites. We browsed tons of magazines and websites until we finally found a design that felt right. As soon as we both saw it, we knew it was meant to be ours. Faint leaves and a rustic branch design adorned the right side, top, and bottom of the invitation. It was simply perfect.
Another great way to customize your invitations is through the use of color. You can change the background paper color, ink hues, or even the colors of the accent details on the invitations. While traditional invite colors such as ivory and white are always a popular option, don’t be afraid of using bright or bold colors. It is a popular trend to change the colors to match your chosen wedding colors. While you do not have to do anything of the sort, doing so is a fabulous way to compliment the feel of your wedding ceremony. Our wedding colors were sage and ivory, so they were easy to tie into our nature themed design. If you decide on a dark colored paper or background, be sure to use a light and easy-to-read ink pigment for the writing and vice versa. Avoid using two light colors or two dark tones, as guests need to be able to clearly read wedding details. One time I received an invitation that was on dark burgundy paper with black writing. I felt like I had to do a rubbing of it just to find out who was getting married.
Wording, the fonts used and paper choices are some other ways to create amazing and unequaled invitations that perfectly reflect you. If you’re planning a catered dinner, with suited butlers and the whole shebang, chances are you don’t want to go with ridiculously casual text or a funky typeface. Our wedding was more laid back with a buffet and non-traditional seating, so we opted for a simple font and wording and found an eco-friendly recycled paper to have the invites printed on. Avoid fonts that are hard to decipher; just because you love a particular font doesn’t mean everyone will be able to read it. Think of your great grandmother when choosing a typeface; if she can’t read it, don’t go with it. Shopping for the perfect wedding invitations is more fun and easier with so many customization options available. And companies like Storkie have taken things a step further by creating an application that allows you to change even minor details like the hair or skin color found on a particular invite’s caricature. Have fun while creating an invitation that suits your style and feel free to express yourself.
